Peer Into the Crystal Ball?
This is a great essay on a court case in Great Britain where a Christian couple's ability to act as foster parents has been denied based on their Christian faith and particularly on their stated belief that homosexuality was wrong and that they would not encourage any children in their care to see it as acceptable.
Folks will argue that Great Britain is a different place than the United States in terms of the rights of citizens, and that this could never happen here in the United States. And perhaps in this form, it can't. Not yet, at least. It's interesting that this case is decided in Great Britain at the same time the US Supreme Court overwhelmingly affirmed overwhelmingly affirmed our Constitutional right to free speech - even when that speech is in the poorest of taste.
So free speech may not be the grounds on which Christianity is driven underground in the United States. But it could happen under different auspices. The route of choice for opponents of Christianity is the issue of separation of church and state and what that means and looks like. More success is being enjoyed in this arena than a likely frontal assault on free speech would be. But the net effect could be the same.
