Curiously Innocent

You may remember a year or two ago, as the US economy was stumbling all over the place and major US auto manufacturers were being bailed out by taxpayers courtesy of the Federal government, there was a rash of accidents reported involving Toyota vehicles that suddenly accelerated uncontrollably resulting in accidents.  The news made major headlines and received lots of airtime on the radio.  Could it be that the number one car manufacturer in the world (and major competitor for struggling US automakers) was in fact producing faulty vehicles, possible with computer related control issues?

What a wonderful - and convenient - to buy American cars!

Investigations were launched by outraged politicians and industry experts, certain that they would uncover negligence on Toyota's part.  Toyota maintained innocence, while at the same time recalling many vehicles in order to ensure that there wasn't an undetected mechanical design flaw or electronics glitch.  I'm sure they spent a *lot* of money in the process.

It was revealed today that absolutely no issues with Toyota electronics were discovered by the US Department of Transportation.  I hope that this gets as much airtime and headline space as all of the allegations received.  But I'm not holding my breath.
