Miscellaneous Articles

A couple of articles I've been sitting on for a little bit.

The first has a great headline, but most of the rest of the article is spent downplaying the significance.  Research at BYU noted that in a survey of married people, those who delayed sex until after marriage or until later in the relationship reported higher levels of satisfaction in their marriage than those who engaged in sexual behavior earlier in the relationship.

While many people might find that unsurprising, the article works very hard to disabuse us of the notion that we need to take this overly seriously.  If we want to have a society where sex is freely available to pretty much everyone (and there are plenty of folks who are obviously pushing this goal), we can't be making too much out of the benefits of some traditional attitudes about sex.

The second, older article out of Great Britain talks about how many teens would prefer lessons on 'family values' as opposed to the mechanics of sex that most sex ed classes apparently focus on.  Kind of depressing that researchers were "surprised" at the traditional, "moral" attitudes that young people have towards sex.  Imagine that - despite immense philosophical and educational and media insistence on the amorality of sexuality, kids still recognize that these ideas are wrong.

What did you think of this article?
