Metaphorically Speaking
I think this is funny - though not entirely for the reasons the artist does.
Leaving aside the bad theology in panel 8, and the oversimplification of panels 2-5, I think that the last three panels area pretty dead-on indictment of how most of American Christianity treats some of the passages of Scripture that are more challenging for an affluent culture.
The bad theology shouldn't be too surprising, given the overall mishandling of Scripture prevalent on this site.
