Inch by Inch, Row by Row
God is pretty amazing, and I appreciate the fact that every now and then He reminds me of this fact.
In the continuing saga of the community garden, the next logical step is to get some good topsoil and soil amendment to pour over the area of our property to be committed to gardening purposes, and then have this tilled into the existing land to provide a good growing environment. We've marked out a roughly 20x60 or so plot of ground for this purpose. It's full of weeds, so ideally we'd need to get the weeds out of there first. These steps were outlined in an impromptu session late last week. Since this is Holy Week, I didn't think that we'd make much progress until at least next week.
But today, we had probably five large truckloads of ideal topsoil dumped off, courtesy of some folks excavating a drainage ditch along an agricultural field. I was expecting to have to pay for that stuff, or beg to have it donated by a local nursery or Home Depot. Instead, out of the blue, one of our members calls me up to warn me that the first truckload will be showing up in five minutes. One less thing to have to figure out financing for. One more step along the path to a garden has been taken in spite of my lethargy.
As if that wasn't enough, about five minutes after the first truckload was dumped, I got a call from another church in the area who has expressed interest in the project. They had a line on some topsoil as well and wondered if we still needed some. I let them know that if they could arrange it, we could go ahead and have it dumped near where the next area for development would likely be - if this community garden actually takes off and grows into something that people want to be a part of.
God is good, and appears to be inclined to make this happen even when I don't have the time to commit to it that I think it needs. What a relief to realize once again how very unimportant I am in God's workings in the world, and therefore what a privilege it is to find myself smack dab in the middle of one such work!
